World Heritage sites of Ethiopia

World heritage sites are sites that are considered to belong to all peoples of the world regardless of the country where they are found. When we see the body in the process of selection of a site we find UNESCO world heritage committee administers this kind of activities.

These above articles must not be left unmentioned since they have linkage with what we are going to deal next.

As a matter of fact, Ethiopia has a lot of attraction in each and every area we go however. All of them are not getting acceptance as a world heritage site in case they fail to fulfill the requirement which has been put by UNESCO. Because of these reason it is obliged to have a limit world site these are:-

A. Lalibela Rock - Hewn churches

  • It's located in North Wollo (last)Made by king Lalibela during Zagwa dynasty
  • It's recognized (registered) by UNESCO as world heritage site in September 1978.

B. Semien National Park

  • It's located in North Gonder
  • It's recognized by UNESCO as world heritage site in September 1978.

C. Fasil Royal Compound and other Mouments of Gonder style.

  • It is located in North GonderIt got its recognition by UNESCO as world heritage site in October 1980

D. Axum, Historical and Archaeological sites

  • It is situated in TigrayIt obtained its recognition by UNESCO as world heritage site in September 1980

E. Lower valley of Awash pale ontological and pre- historic site

  • It is situated in Afar It obtained its recognition by UNESCO as world heritage site in September 1980

F. Tiya, prehistoric site

  • It is situated in Gurage (southern Ethiopia)
  • It obtained its recognition by UNESCO as world heritage site in September 1980

G. Valley of omo pre-historic and paleontological sites

  • It is situated in Gamo Gofa (southern Ethiopia)
  • It obtained its recongnition by UNESCO as world heritage site in September 1980

H. Harer Jegol the fortified Historic Town

  • It's situated in Harer ( eastern Ethiopia)
  • It is registered in August 2006
